On June 4, 2018, Microsoft officially announced that it had acquired GitHub for $7.5 billion. Rumors about this appeared shortly before.
Of course, after Microsoft made it official, some people freaked out and wanted to leave GitHub. Other platforms also announced. But in the end it was just a flash in the pan. In the meantime, Microsoft has put other projects on GitHub. Be it the PowerToys or the Wingets. And with the help of users, many problems have been reported and resolved.
Although Microsoft paid more than GitHub was worth at the time, it certainly wasn’t a bad buy.
